Weekend Plans Made Ethical

Working for the weekend? Aren’t we all! If you’re looking forward to your mini-break, we’ve got some fun ways to take advantage of your weekend: helping others, helping the world and having fun along the way. We’ve made your weekend plans ethicalized! ;)
Cook Your Dinner Twice
Check out some fun meat-free dinner ideas, and then double your recipe. Package up the extras and head out to hand out your meal to someone who could use a reminder someone out there cares. Maybe it’s an elderly relative who you know is often lonely, maybe it’s the homeless person you walk past every day on your commute to work, or perhaps it’s a neighbor you know has been struggling recently.

A Day at the Beach
Planning to spend some time down by the shore? Why not head out a few hours earlier and spend the morning helping clean the coast. The Ocean Conservancy has all the tools you need to plan a cleanup event of your own, no matter where you live. (All water leads to the ocean eventually!) Plastics have been found in 62% of seabirds and 100% of sea turtle species. You’ll have fun chatting with your friends while you clean and will get a headstart on your suntan.

Walk the Dog
If you’re like many millennials you love dogs. And if you’re like most millennials you live in a cramped apartment and have no time to take care of a dog of your own. Why not skip your Saturday morning spin class and head over to the local animal shelter to walk dogs for a few hours? You’ll get your exercise in, your puppy fix and help a dog feel some love. Google your local SPCA and take the simple steps necessary to become a volunteer!

Skip the Bar
Invite your friends over for an Ethical Cocktail Event. Challenge all your pals to come up with an ethical spin on a classic cocktail, or perhaps their own ethical concoction. There are tons of sustainably produced liquors now that are making the swap easier than ever. When in doubt buy local and chose your mixers wisely! Pineapple juice from Tahiti sounds delightful, but what’s the carbon footprint of that bottle traveling all the way to your doorstep?

The Best Things in Life Are Free

Host a Swap Party! Clothes, CDs, kitchen ware, books, furniture, whatever you have laying around. This is a great way to stop items from going to the landfill, prevents the unnecessary purchase of an already sufficient used item and saves some serious cash. Plus, it’s a great way to spend time with friends and spread the ethical/eco-friendly message.

Go Shopping

Happy ethical weekend everyone!
