Meet an #empowerman: Ylan (28)

Every month we invite you to meet #empowerman. We ask them to tell us about who they are and why they choose VIRTŪ -  what we get back is amazing.
This time we meet Ylan (28), a French-German living in Sweden - one of the leading countries in environmental and sustainable causes. We are so proud to have him as part of our #empowerman team.
"Good day to everyone, I am Ylan, a Franco German based in Malmö, Sweden. I have been asked to share an idea, a point of view or just some words on this blog. Thanks guys, it is an honour and I’ll do my best.
I
would like to begin by saying that I grew up in Paris where fashion is something that is ever present in people’s lives. It doesn’t matter how you dress, but everyone has an opinion and cares about the details that go into an ensemble. That said, Paris is somewhat of a bubble, and you can only see one part of the fashion value chain.
Over the years, I’ve had the chance to travel which has really made me grow and started to open my eyes to a more global vision. I am now working in the capital of the south of Sweden, Malmö. It is here that I really started to care about social issues bigger than myself. I don’t think I need to highlight how much people in Scandinavia care - they are very conscious about what is really important! Respect for others and nature, love and family, balance and equality - that’s what is truly important. I understand this sounds fluffy and idealistic, but between you and me, isn’t it true?
As my priorities and beliefs started to change, I found VIRTŪ and realized their initiatives were challenging the status quo. The fashion business is filled with contrast— from cotton field to retail floor, from poor to rich, from New Delhi to Stockholm and beyond. Consumers should understand and appreciate the value of sustainability, and seeing the positive impact VIRTŪ has on employees and their families is heartening. They make sure their fellow workers are treated with respect and care and at the same time, they truly value quality in production and protecting the environment. Finally, for me, it was a three step process to become an #empowerman. First I learned about VIRTŪ, then I took action by sponsoring their efforts and finally they earned my respect."
