Gotta love those Eco-Friendly Alpacas!

Why Alpaca? I mean, they’re pretty cute, but there has to be more, right? Pull up a chair and stay for a while … let’s chat alpaca.
First of all, it just feels good. A naturally super soft material, it’s not itchy even when worn directly on your skin. It’s also breathable, water resistant and naturally wicking, so it keeps you warm without suffocating you as you go through your day. Weather in the Andes mountains is unpredictable, so to keep the alpacas comfortable their fur has to adjust to rapidly changing weather. That means that in an alpaca pullover even if your day starts off freezing, warms up a little, and then ends in a light drizzle (we’re looking at you, London) you’ll feel just as good all throughout the day.

Aside from feeling good, they also look really great. Alpaca is super low on the pilling scale and naturally a very durable material. You can wear this sweater year and after year and be confident that you’ll look just as smart as the day you bought it. Fast fashion this is not - in Latin America alpaca products are made to be passed down generation after generation. With landfills filling up with cheap, unsustainable clothing, purchasing one sweater that will last is surely an eco-friendly choice.

On the whole, alpacas are pretty gentle to the earth. They eat very little grass (and cut it efficiently with their teeth, just above the root so it grows back) and drink only small amounts of water. Their hooves are surprisingly light on their terrain compared to other animals. Ecosystems are thus left intact even when grazing large herds of alpacas. Who knew these goofy creatures were so environmentally friendly? Goats for cashmere or sheep for wool can’t boast this! Plus, one alpaca produces enough fiber for several sweaters whereas it would take several goats or sheep to create just one wool or cashmere sweater. Alpacas were doing sustainable fashion before it became trendy!
It’s a wonder that Bolivia has managed to keep the benefits of alpaca a secret for so long.
These sweet, nutty creatures seem to have wrapped every single desirable quality for ethical fashion all into one, hence: the Perfect Pullover. When combined with the highest industry standards for and from our producers, there really isn’t anything else left to want. A living wage and ethical conditions for our workers, plus an eco-friendly, sustainable, cozy and refined looking fairtrade pullover for you.
