News of the Syrian Refugee Crisis seems to surround us these days. Misinformation is spreading. Opinions are shouted out from every corner. Political opinions are swirling all around - the left and the right are battling it out. And still the crisis persists. Chemical weapons. Explosions. Hungry families. Overturned boats. Dead children on beaches. Homes destroyed. Refugee camps overflowing. Evacuee buses bombed. It seems never ending.
What got us here? Why is the situation so dire right now to make a mother choose between staying in their home in Syria and taking her children on a potentially deadly boat ride to escape? The simple answer is that the potentially lethal boat is safer than staying in Syria.

Change isn’t going to come easily to the fashion industry. Why would it? When their goal is to make money, they’re been pretty darn successful. They’re figured out the best way to bring home the bacon: cut corners regarding ethical conditions, the environment and worker salaries. Fool people into thinking you need more more more and it’s a recipe for success.
The original social entrepreneur himself, Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, will be sitting down with VIRTŪ during his upcoming trip to the Dominican Republic. Obviously, we are incredibly honored, excited and perhaps a little star struck! When you are down in the weeds trying to start a new business, dealing with the day to day frustrations, this is an extreme confidence boost. Like a little reminder that our efforts are part of a greater movement that is changing the world. :) As our co-founder Jason Grullon says, as “young social entrepreneurs, we are nurtured by the visions of people like Professor Yunus.”
St. Patrick’s Day is the greenest of holidays! In an effort to treat our world and the people in it with the famous Irish kindness and spunk, here are some neat tips to make your St. Patrick’s Day fun and ethical. Céad míle fáilte!
The world is not all doom and gloom. You can care about huge life altering causes, and still make time to enjoy all that is right and beautiful with the world. Sometimes when the state of the world feels hopeless and bleak, it’s best to retreat to the ones you love the most to let loose and recharge to continue the battle. And at VIRTU we’d like to propose a good old fashioned whiskey and cigar night with your pals. Card games optional, but highly suggested. No boys allowed, no girls allowed, or perhaps all are welcome. Whatever is going to put a smile on your face.
If there is anything that makes a statement about your personal beliefs and philosophies, it’s an engagement ring. This ring sets the tone for your marriage, displays your values and often makes your first impression for you. A doorknob diamond versus a simple gold band, a vintage heirloom versus a showy and intricate sparkler, a fun and colorful stone versus an elegant eternity band, an innovative new concept versus a tasteful design a grandmother would love. Every couple has a different persona, every couple has different priorities, every couple holds dear different sets of values. What does your ring say about you?
The 27.02 was a special day for us at VIRTŪ. First of all, we celebrated Dominican Republic’s independence day. This beautiful country is home to both our first production community and our co-founder’s home. Second, we wanted to celebrated our backers, supporters, friends and family who help us the last few months. That’s why we finally we hosted a little party in Berlin that was sponsored by Russian Standard, Rute, Helbing and Luc Belaire. Thank you all for coming!

Last week the COP21 Climate Change Conference concluded with the signing of an agreement declaring a common will by worldwide leaders to adhere to concrete goals in order to fight climate change. It is quite extraordinary that only a month after a slew of brutal atrocities in the heart of The City of Light, the French capital immortalises what we hope to be the first stone laid in a foundation of change.
